Picking a Content Path to Lead Your Content Marketing Efforts

What’s Pillar Content?

Don’t you love it when marketing gurus throw around words like “pillar content?” Pillar content is the content path that you’ve chosen to focus on when it comes to your website.

Pillar content is website content that provides a complete answer to any question your audience may be searching for topics that you're an authority or knowledgeable about. While it gives value for the readers, it also ranks highly in the search engines too.

There are three types of website content that are valuable to build your authority online. They are blogs, podcasts & videos.

Blogs, Really?

Yes, I’m back to talking about blogs.

When you add content to your website, we talked about why the website copy is more important than your social media caption because of search engine optimization (SEO).

As a social media coach, taking my audience's questions or struggles and making them into blogs helps build authority with not only your audience but also on Google.

Blogs are the simplest way to stand out among your competitors.

Rank Higher by Adding Videos or Podcasts

One system that has worked for myself is creating a video that contains the answer to these questions for social media and then I create a blog post for my website.

The same can be done for a podcast.

There are two reasons that having a video/podcast is better than just a blog.

First, when the audience can hear and see your voice, your content and authority become relatable to that audience, similar to social media.

Second, some people, like myself, are better at speaking than writing so I create a video for social media and use the outline to create a blog post OR get a transcription of the video made.

When a user finds that page via Google, they’ll not only read the content BUT also stay on the page longer to view the video or listen to the podcast, boosting on-page time and authority with Google.

Action step: Create a pillar website content plan. Start with the top questions you get asked by your audience.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will walk you through the path of standing out online, NOT just on social media so that you’re feeling less overwhelmed and creating a cohesive plan that works for you.
