Are you spending your time obsessing over the copy that goes in your social media caption? What if I said that you’re obsessing over the wrong copy?
I bet you didn’t know that most social media platforms are not searchable via Google, YouTube, and Pinterest -- the 3 largest search engines.
When working with companies on marketing consulting or coaching ]many come to me to stand out on social media and are confused when I tell them that if they can, they need to start with the content on their website first.
We’ve talked about the must-have pages to flush out on your website first now it’s time to develop a web content plan that you can repurpose for social media by adding a blog on your website.
Blogs Are Best
Blogging for business has come a long way. Blogs were first known as diary users who would post on websites like Blogger.com, Livejournal, etc. Though getting a business on board to do this can be tricky.
In 2012 when I started a new job, it took months for me to convince my manager that I needed to spend some time on weekly blog posts and once we got in a groove it helped our keyword search, as well.
Now, blogs are an acceptable form of authoritative content!
Blogs are cheap -- they just take some time to create. Each week, I set aside a two hour block to write as many as I can with my specific keywords. At first, it may not seem like the time is worth setting aside but in a few months when people find you organically through search engines, you’ll thank me!
Build Authority
Serving your audience with your knowledge on a consistent basis offers free value along with top of mind brand awareness (with all of the search engine goodness).
It’s not just the words on the screen -- you’re one step ahead of those seeking out your products or services building credibility.
Become an influence by utilizing a blog as a tool to generate and engage your audience like bloggers have done over the years.
Drive Traffic
Remember when I said social media coaching clients do a double take when I mention they must-have a blog?
This post right here will also be promoted on not only my website homepage BUT on all social media platforms in the form of about 4-5 different posts AND in my email marketing. When you have consistent content marketing paths for your business, it often takes the guesswork out of your social media and email marketing copywriting.
Action Step: Where do you start with blog content? What are the most asked questions that your audience asks? Write down around 6 topics that you could blog/talk about.
