Video marketing ideas to get your started

video-content-ideas-social-media-coacho-bend-oregon-portland-consultant.png

When it comes to using video for your website and social media marketing, the content you’re going to talk about is the #1 thing you should focus on. Let’s talk about some quick steps in getting started in reaching your dream clients with the right content.

When you know what your audience wants that speaks directly to them, you’re serving your dream client.

Serving your dream clients is the whole point of a content marketing plan. It’s replaces selling when you serve and answer the struggles of those dream clients.

The content you create via video reaches those dream clients and they also get to see you and it builds that trust and relatability.

When I say “content” I mean everything .. the pages on your website, the blogs you create, the social media posts and the videos.

One trick that’s helped my Google rankings is to post the video on my site with content above it. I started out by getting the video transcribed and then reworked the copy a bit. It will improve your search rankings because people watching the video will stay on the page longer and Google LOVES that.

Where do you start with serving my audience the right content that hooks them in?

What are you frequently being asked? Keep track of what they’re asking. I have a file on my phone in my notes and do this with several of my clients as well.

Start by answering those questions from your dream clients.

Another way to know exactly? Ask “What’s your struggle with [insert product or service]?” often. This could be over coffee chats, as social questions, in Facebook groups.

Action step: What are 12 things your dream clients frequently ask you or ask “what’s your struggle with [insert product or service]?

Why content, consistency & confidence is the key to standing out online.

When you start putting yourself out on social media, on a regular basis, people will start to “know you for something.” One of the things that people remember from things I do --- presentations, coaching calls, or even my social media is that I often say it takes content, consistency & confidence to stand out online, in networking groups, etc.

There are 3 keys items to standing out online and almost anywhere for that matter. Content. Consistency & Confidence.

Let’s start with content …
When you know what your audience wants that speaks directly to them, you’re serving your dream client.

When I say “content”, I mean everything .. the pages on your website, the blogs you create, the social media posts, and the videos.

Where do you start? What are you frequently being asked? Start by answering those questions from your dream clients.

Ask “What’s your struggle with [insert product or service]?” often.

Action step: What are 6 things your dream clients frequently ask you.

Consistency
For me, it started with committing to posting a video tip each Tuesday morning. I had my most frequently asked questions in a notebook, and each Friday, I’d record a quick video.

I was asking my clients to create videos, so I started to treat myself as a client and each week since January 2018, I’ve been here with a video.

Action step: set a time you’ll consistently show up each week on video. Bonus to this is to post that video you created for social media on your website.

Confidence is everything
Confidence is what often holds everyone back. How you sound, look, imposter syndrome. I could go on. First off, let go of how you sound and look. Your dream clients will not care if you’re serving them what they want from you.

When it comes to imposter syndrome or thinking, your not good enough, it all boils down to this .. all you need to be in one step ahead of your dream client.

When you become more consistent, you’ll build your confidence, becoming more comfortable, relatable that the competency will show.

Action step: done is better than perfect. The confidence will come, I promise you.

5 reason why you business needs video marketing

Want to sell more products and services? Get your face on video. 90% of consumers say video helps them when it comes to purchasing products and services.

If that statistic that 90% of consumers say video helps them with purchases got your attention about video marketing, then here are some other reasons why stepping in front of the camera is important to building a business & brand.

Video is the fastest way to become relatable/likable (or weed out those who don't like you) and for people to get to know you. By letting your audience hear and see you, they know what you’re like and gravitate towards either wanting to hear more from you or not hearing from you. It’s a fast way to gain trust by being your authentic self.

Video is easier to consume. And this little gadget has made it more accessible for consumers to learn and for you to even produce a video. You can show your audience what it’s like to work with you by serving them educational content that helps them understand what you do and how you can help them thus leading to sales & conversions.

It used to be, you’d have a video produced and not have many places to share that video. With social media, videos can get shared, repurposed email marketing, and don’t forget your website.

Speaking of your website, Google LOVES video. It encourages people to spend more time on your website which affects your search engine ranking.

Are you convinced? Awesome!

How I got started using video marketing

If you’ve seen me speak, you know that I have a broadcasting degree that I barely have used. Today’s tip is going to be about how I got started and an action step for you to take to get going with using video in your marketing.

It was this month three years ago, that I started posting a tip each Tuesday on social media. My friend and I were talking over drinks about how no one in our area was posting weekly marketing tips on social media, specifically LinkedIn.

I sat for several months wanting to post video content, but I was afraid to put myself out there, wondering what people thought. I could totally go on with the excuses.

The irony of that feeling is I have a broadcasting degree and I’m trained in the editorial and tech of producing videos. I even have all the right tools and lighting to do so. But I sat there -- afraid.

Why was I afraid? I was told on my first day at an internship several months from graduating (in 1996) that I didn’t have the look for TV. And I held onto that fear for 20 years.

Did it stop me from working in broadcasting? No, I ended working as a news producer for 9 months after graduating from college and then switched to Internet Marketing.

After sitting several months on a list of ideas, I decided to grab my phone, record a video, and talk about hashtags on Instagram (here is the link to that video). DONE was better than perfect.

There wasn’t going to be a perfect time, a perfect hair day, or the perfect topic. I simply had to take the leap off the edge, record that video, and make it happen.

Each week, I committed to making a 60-second video tip and posted it to all my social platforms .. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Sometimes I’d batch record the video the week before and sometimes, I’d record the video on Tuesday morning.

A couple of months after posting, I’d see friends at networking events and they’d say they LOVED my videos, and some even sent business my way.

Video is a great way to stay top of mind, stand out, and be inspiring through education.

How to find the time to work on your business

How to find the time to work on your business-marketing-coach-consultant-oregon-bend-portland.png

Potential coaching clients and coaching clients often come to me saying they don’t have time to work on the marketing tasks for their business. We’re pulled in many directions!  I’ll give some steps that everyone can walk away with from managing to tasks of getting your business known and people sending you referrals.

In my coaching sessions, one of the first items that come up is someone needs a hack to get their marketing done in just minutes a week. They’ll create a social media posting schedule that burns them out and oftentimes not even working on the most important digital marketing tool you have, your website.

The first step, track your time for a week and look for blocks of time you can set aside to work on your marketing tasks. When you find them, block them in your calendar and hold that space sacred! You might find a perfect 4-hour spot on Wednesday afternoon. For me, it was Friday morning -- I’d block 9-noon and treat my business like I was a client.

For some people whose schedule varies from day-to-day and who have many balls in the air -- kids at home, taking older parents to doctor appointments -- you may just have to look at your schedule the night before and decide “I’m going to work in that 2-hour block between school drop-off and that doctor appt.”

For some, you’ll see the holes in your calendar and others will just have to play it day-by-day.

THE GOALS WITH THIS ACTIVITY ---TREAT YOURSELF AS A CLIENT.

Second step: Make a list of items you want to accomplish from most important to least important. Spend that time you block out, working on that list. Shut your phone off, close your office door, turn off your email. Hold that space sacred.

Third step: Once you finish once a goal, move on to the next goal. Don’t try to accomplish two or three goals at once, finish one, then move one.

ACTION STEP: TRACK YOUR TIME AND FIND WHERE YOU’RE WASTING IT AND FILL THOSE TIME WORKING ON THE GOALS YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH.

I’m an alumnus of Simply Social & Digital and I have already learned so much I can implement in my business's marketing plan. Let's be honest, before working with Shannon, I had no plan. I am now creating a plan, working to schedule out my social media posts (and my life), blocking out time to work on goals, creating more content ideas, and am learning about email marketing (something I thought I would never do).
