Creating Regular Content Categories for Social Media Using the CITES Method

The key to standing out on social media is consistency. By developing recurring or content that's produced every week, your business stays top of mind. The more consistent you are, the more your audience will recognize you for this content.

This brand awareness will keep you top of mind when someone needs or refers to your business for the service/s you offer.

When I started to treat myself like I would treat a client, like developing a few content "buckets" that helped me with planning and scheduling.

I used to explain these in a different order. One day, Austin, one of my superstar coaching clients, put the CITES order so it would be easier for me to explain.

Types of posts to have as regular social media content categories:

  • CONNECT: Content that creates emotions, fears, and stories from your past that relate to your target audience

  • INSPIRE: Share your journey, mistakes that you made that you don't want your audient to make

  • TEACH: Content your audience can learn from and put into action. This isn't "look at me" content. It's more "learn from me."

  • SELL: Each week, you should include something you're selling and invite the audience to buy.

  • ENTERTAIN: Think TikTok, Reels because this is where you show your quirky side and personality.

One last thing that I'll mention is that the CITES can also be an excellent outline for website content writing. When sitting down to write for search engine optimization or education, look at the CITES as a guide to tell an authentic, relatable story with some selling.
