We are living in some interesting times. Our plans for our business may be put it on hold, our kids are home because schools are closed, places that we usually go to aren't open right now. And we are living day by day, and we're all in this together.

I'm here to talk about 4 tips for your business when it comes to marketing and social media during a crisis, or interesting times, like what was we're going through with COVID-19.

I'm a positive person so I'm trying to find the good in the things that I've had planned in my business. I was going to have a video made this summer. My Tip Tuesdays were going to be professionally done, I'm still home doing them myself, in my office. And so I'm kind of mourning the loss of things that were going to happen in my business.

But out of that has come some good things. And so I'm here to talk to you about what to do when a crisis strikes. I have 4 tips for you. These are going to be tried and trued through anything your business, crisis-wise, is going to experience.

Do not go dark … show up!
The number one thing is, do not go dark with your marketing. This is something I'm seeing a lot of folks doing right now, and you do not want to go dark right now. You want to show up, you want to tell the story of what's going on, maybe precautions you're taking because we are going through a worldwide pandemic. And so you want to show what your business is doing to take measures, to stay clean. Just show up, show up. Even if your doors are closed, show up and show what your business is doing, or what you're retooling, or what you're thinking, because you want to stay top of mind. Top of mind is key here. Showing up, so don't go dark.

What does your audience want?
You want to second, focus on your audience. What does your audience want to hear and see from you right now? Maybe you take a poll, send an email out, go into some Facebook groups, and see maybe how you can adjust and pivot what you're doing right now.

Embrace the uncertainty, but don't spread fear
You want to be honest with that, you want to be authentic, and you want to just really show how you're feeling. It's okay to feel uncertain, it's okay to adjust during interesting times, but if you've closed your doors and you can't work right now or do the things you love to do, show what you're doing instead. Keep yourself top of mind, embrace the uncertainty, but don't spread the fear.

Get on video — LIVE!
And four is something I'm seeing a lot of you do, and a lot of you not do that you should be doing. You should be going live. This is the easiest way to do video. Now you can go live. You don't have to have fancy lights or microphone, but you can go alive whenever you want. And you can show what's happening in your business, you can show the behind the scenes and you can answer those questions and build a community around what you do.

Bottomline: Staying top of mind is key
The main points here are show up, stay on top of mind, don't bury your head in the sand, don't go dark, and focus on your audience and what you can do for them right now.
