The secret to having a killer social media presence is not only about the content, branding, and media but also how consistent your brand is when it comes to posting on the social media platforms. Setting aside the time to be consistent is the first step to digital marketing success.
Yes, content is technically king when it comes to social media but developing a consistent plan is truly how the work gets done.
Let’s break down the 3 steps to winning at consistency.
Write It Down
Plan for success with having a plan. I like to start clients out by theming their week based on customer’s needs. Keep track of what your customers are asking you and theme your week around that. So, let's say you're selling skin care products and you’re getting asked about dry skin in the summer… You’ll want content around education, how to solve the problem, a customer testimonial around how your product helps them, and a personal story.
I focus my week with these categories:
Education with a solution
Inspiration
Relatable story
Client success
Promote services
I’m taking one topic and talking about it all week long. Keep in mind, your social media reaches around an average of 5% of your audience, so repeating the content will help your audience remember you. You can also head over to the Stories feature to work on the categories and then break them down into 5 sub-categories in short-form videos.
Pro Tip: Make sure that you also put this content on your website in long form for SEO keyword-rich Google goodness.
Make Room
Once you have a plan in place, now you block the time in your calendar to execute the plan. I develop a quarterly plan that includes all marketing activities including theme weeks and the corresponding posts. The key here is to block the time and actually use that time to work out the plan and get it scheduled. This is sacred time.
Pro Tip: Block the same time each week. Turn off all your notifications on the computer, phone, and turn on do not disturb your email.
Batch Creating
Let’s batch create! This is self-explanatory. Create batches of content for your page. I have batch created content by time blocking 4 hours a month to get everything done. I’ve also blocked just one hour and do it weekly. It’s up to you how you want to do this!
During that hour, write out the copy, find images, create graphics, videos then schedule the social media posts on the networks. Though, some like to do this by blocking a whole day and others prefer to batch create once a week. You do you in this situation.
Pro Tip: don’t forget to log into the apps and engage when your content is posted.
In the next coming weeks, if you’re new to showing up on social media, I’ll give you plenty of tips & tricks to get comfortable with becoming consistent in your messaging.
